Family Garden with Pergola and Fire Pit
This backyard is arranged around a timber pergola and a central fire pit. Lounge seating, swings, and a path through the lawn give the garden several ways to be occupied.

The design is read through its paths, planting layers, and places to spend time outdoors.
What the space needed
The design gives a large lawn a clear destination and creates separate places to sit around it. The pergola provides a strong center while the open lawn keeps the room connected to the rest of the yard.
How the planting works
Planting gathers around the edges of the lawn and behind the pergola rather than filling the activity area. Trees, shrubs, and lower foliage provide a green setting for the timber structure.
Materials and layout
A stepping-stone path leads from the foreground to the pergola. Inside, a fire pit is surrounded by lounge seating, with swings and a long bench or table arranged nearby under the string lights.
Using the garden
The layout is visibly made for gathering, sitting, and moving between different outdoor seats. The open path and lawn keep these zones connected without making the garden feel crowded.
The planting around the room will change in texture and color with the seasons, while the pergola and fire pit keep the gathering layout clear.
