Family Garden with Layered Planting
The garden keeps a broad area of lawn open in front of the home. Layered planting gathers along the edges, giving the house a softer setting without taking over the usable center.

A closer look
The design is read through its paths, planting layers, and places to spend time outdoors.
What the space needed
The composition balances a large open lawn with enough planting to connect the house to the ground. The clear center leaves the garden flexible for movement and everyday outdoor use.
How the planting works
Rounded hydrangea forms repeat along the foundation, with taller shrubs and trees behind them. The planting creates depth in layers while leaving the white facade visible above.
Materials and layout
A dark paved drive or walk defines one side of the lawn. The planted beds sit close to the home, while the lawn forms a continuous open surface between the house and the foreground.
Using the garden
The open lawn can accommodate different kinds of family activity, while the edge planting provides a garden view from the house. The direct layout is easy to read from the approach.
The lawn, hydrangeas, and surrounding trees will shift in color and fullness as the seasons change and the garden grows in.
